I think part of the diff is that 9 mm is supersonic. if he had used subsonic the diff would be less. 9x17 is not supersonic and most 9 mm is.

the can suppresses gas sound at the muzzle but not supersonic crack downstream.

obviously it doenst silence the action of the slide either which is why on some pieces they use a slide lock
